SERMONS for Study and Reflection

Law or No Law?    Colossians 2:16-3:11

Like the game show, "Deal or No Deal," where contestants pick cases at random, some people treat the law of God in the same way.  "Law or no law."  I'll pick this one – I won’t pick that one. In Colossians, we find a fascinating contrast between the attitude towards law that is seen at the end of chapter 2 and a very different perspective in the beginning of chapter 3. PRAYER:  A Three Part Series

I.   Childish or Child-like                                       Luke 11:1-13

Jesus calls us to pray as a little child to the Father; “When you pray say Father.” We are free to bring our heart-felt requests to God without worrying about the words or the approach or even the possibility of the request. Our attitude should be child-like rather than childish. The key to prayer is not the words – it is the relationship. We pray as a child to the Father, forgiven by Jesus’ death on the cross and adopted to be a beloved child of the King of the Universe.   more...

II.  Do We REALLY Believe God Answers Prayer?   John 14:12-13, 15:7, 16:24

In this sermon, we will look at a type of prayer that God loves answering – it is a type of prayer that fires up vision and encourages fulfilling actions in our lives.  It is a much bigger prayer that is meant to change the world. When we commit to praying regularly and unitedly for revival in the church and advancement of Christ’s Kingdom in the world, God will answer in His time and we will know great joy.    more...

III. How Do We Pray for Physical Healing          II Corinthians 12:7-10

The power of prayer comes not in learning to manipulate God – the power of prayer is aligning ourselves with God so we join Him in His work. We want to be careful not to be deceived by false claims and false teaching about healing, and instead, pray honestly & intensely enough for healing that we can hear God’s answer.  Then we want to positively accept God’s gracious answer which always has something special for us in it.  We will study a person in the Bible who faced far more pain than almost all of us here – the apostle Paul – let’s see how he prayed for physical healing.   more...
